Confronting Fear (Re-Mixed Monologue)
This was a piece I did with long time friend, collaborator, and acting talent- Dylan Zalewski. I gave Dylan a very vague prompt, and put him on the spot completely, by asking him to engage in a dialogue solely with the camera concerning his thesis subjects of fear and freedom.
Dylan was extremely disapointed with the fragmented/improvisational outcome of his monologue, however, I was interested in exploiting the honesty within certain points of this evident frustration. This led me to working with the footage in a very different way, allowing through editing; the exposing of several different layers of Dylans words and actions. All and all, I think this was a particularly interesting project, in that through my manipulation- I believe I was able to reveal the literal substance and honesty that could be found in- what Dylan considered- a failed monologue.
